In June 2024 we were invited to visit a massive project being undertaken in Copenhagen, by Bluelights manufacturer and leading rehabilitation company Aarsleff. The use of GRP segmental lining has been widely used in the repair and rehabilitation of underground assets for many years and Aarsleff have perfected the manufacture and installation techniques to put them at the forefront of this technology.
The specially constructed sections are designed and manufactured in house and delivered directly to the work site from the factory in Germany. Depending on the geometry of the host pipe and taking into account the ground loadings, surface loading and the waste being transported different thicknesses are produced to satisfy the clients requirements. Sections as large as 3m in diameter can be produced in house at a rate of up to 2 per 12 hour shift. Each of these sections weighed in at 3000kg per section and up to 10 sections per shift were installed.
This fantastic method of repair is fast to install, exceptionally strong, long lasting and can be manufactured in any shape required. Our continued partnership with Aarsleff means that we are able to offer any of their repair techniques to the UK market.
This particular project consisted of 155m of approx. DN3000 and ran 7m under the main rail network leading into Copenhagen.
